Artist's Statement

My work focuses on light, atmosphere and the emotional character of a place. I am drawn to scenes that hold a particular mood, whether through changing light, a quiet moment, a sense of movement or stillness.

I work in soft pastel, using colour, contrast and layered marks to interpret a scene rather than describe it literally. What matters to me is creating an atmosphere and capturing what I felt in that moment. I use light, colour and contrast to bring out the character of a place and what first drew me to it. I want the painting to reflect not only what I saw, but the feeling the scene left with me.

Ultimately, I want my landscapes to evoke emotion and allow each viewer to connect with the scene in a personal way.
